Slipways

In Portsmouth Harbour, public slipways are situated at Hardway (Elson Road), Coldharbour (Harbour Road, off Mumby Road), Haslar Lake (Little Anglesey Road).

On the Solent coastline there are slipways at Stokes Bay and at Lee-on-the-Solent (both at Elmore and, for powerboats and jet skis, at Daedalus)

Activity Zones

There are designated areas for various watersports at Stokes Bay and Lee-on-the-Solent. Please refer to the signs at each of the main seaside car parks for details. The activity zones for water skiing and jet skiing are located at Lee-on-the-Solent and are served by the Daedalus slipway.

Restrictions and prohibited areas

There is a 10 knot speed restriction within the navigable channels of Portsmouth Harbour. Within the Harbour waterskiing and windsurfing are not permitted and the use of jet skis is discouraged. A speed limit of 10 knots is applicable within half a mile of the Solent shoreline at Stokes Bay and Lee-on-the-Solent

Tide and weather information

Information on weather conditions in the Solent can be obtained by telephoning the Marinecall recorded information service on 0891 500457 (for daily forecast) or 0897 300257 (for 48hr forecast, calls charged at 45p per minute cheap rate and 50p at all other times.) Shipping forecasts are broadcast on BBC Radio 4 (92.4-94.6 MHz FM, 198kHz LW) at 1355, 1750 and 0048. Tide tables are available from local chandlers and from Gosport Tourist Information Office telephone 023 9252 2944


Marinas and anchorages

Haslar Marina

Haslar is a modern purpose-built marina situated in a superb location within Portsmouth Harbour near Gosport at the eastern end of The Solent.

Regarded as one of the leading marinas on the south coast, the buildings at Haslar have been designed with a “New England” flavour, enhanced with natural materials, timber boarding, slate & clay tiled roofs to compliment the “Millennium Walkway” running around the marina, from the Submarine Museum to Priddy’s Hard.

Haslar Marina has berths for 620 boats. There are toilets and showers available as well as a chandlers. This marina also includes a fax service and calor gas and ice can be obtained. There is 24hr security on site. The Royal Navy and the Royal Albert Yacht Club have an annexe on site for use of both berth holders and visitors.

Gosport Marina

Gosport Marina has berths for 524 boats. This is now run by Premier. There are bath, shower and toilet facilities available as well as a chandlers and a laundry. There is a fuel pontonn that sells diesel at cost price. The adjacent Waterside Restaurant offers quality food overlooking Portsmouth Harbour and the Historic Dockyard.

Gosport offers a comprehensive range of yachting support services including sailmakers, marine electronics, engineers, boat repairs and maintenance. The town's main shopping area is within a few minutes walk of both marinas.

Port Solent Marina

You need to go past all the Sunsail hire boats and raft up to them waiting for the lock if not open straight away. Watch out, don't go too far to port, very shallow very quickly!

Wicormarine

Traditional family-run boatyard which has been serving the yachting fraternity since 1966. Situated in Fareham lake, a couple of miles from Portsmouth harbour entrance.

There are a few visitor spaces alongside dinghy pontoon (dries out).
