General

Approaches, Routes and Navigation

The best approach time is towards high water. The channel outside the entrance is busy with large ships and smaller tour guide boats, who really do go all over the place with no warning, so best not to hang around outside the entrance for an hour waiting for the lock

Tidal information and currents

This is a seriously tidal area, the Seine runs out at up to 5 knots, so you really don't want to fight it. Although this is supposed to be access at all states of the tide, arrival at low water for anything over 1.5m draught is scary. It's rather shallow. We found the best time to turn up is high tide, the lock is open so you can go straight through.

At other times, check the lock opening times!

What can you say, same as in England, to be honest. August 2008 it rained every day

Marinas and Anchorages

Once through the lock, you can anchor along the wall. The rings are REALLY rusty though, so be careful not to get rust all over your decks. Max waiting time is 24 hours along the wall, free. But, it is not very private at all, people stare all the time as you are moored up along one of the main promenades, so don't expect any peace. The inner basin is much better for that
