General

An attractive port of call. The marina is in the old harbour, right in the heart of this busy little town. Given sufficient rise of tide, the approach channel across the Anse de Paimpol is straight forward. There is usually more water than is shown on the chart. Beware of two nasty patches of rock (marked by perches) close to the northern side of the channel when approaching the breakwater of the outer harbour.

The visitors berths are straight ahead after exiting the lock, but at busy periods, the berthing staff will guide boats to a berth. Large vessels are berthed in the fishing boat harbour, which is to port on exiting the lock. Paimpol is home to several old, traditional fishing boats.

The lock is open 2 1/2hrs each side of HW.

Pimpol is the home to an international sea festival, which usually takes place at the end of October. The famous ‘maritime city’ of France attracts sailors and navigators from around the world. Cinema, photography, plastic arts, music, literary cafes: all the arts will come together to celebrate both freshwater and saltwater.
