General

Fuengirola is a large town and municipality on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain in the province of Malaga and the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is a major tourist resort on the Costa del Sol, with more than 8 km of beaches, and home to a mediæval Moorish fortress. In common with much of this coast, it houses considerable urban development, much of it higher rise blocks of flats.


Approaches, Routes and Navigation

Fuengirola Marina

36º 32' N 4º 37' W Caution is advised when entering in strong NE - E winds. From the NE, The high rises of Torremolinos continue down the coast as far as Fuengirola where in the main they stop. Closer in you will see the 4 minarets of the marina itself. From the SW Punta Calaburras lighthouse is 2 miles SW of the port. A further mile to the NE lies a small hill with a castle on the top. The high rise developments of Fuengirola itself are seen easily. To enter approach the northern end of the outer breakwater, turn to port and enter the marina through the middle of the channel as the starboard side is shallow. Secure to the arrival berth, to starboard, bow or stern to using a lazy line. Enquire about a berth at the office in the NW corner of the port.

This attractive harbour is located near the centre of the town on the Marine Parade or "Paseo Maritimo", which houses dozens of the most popular restaurants and bars in the area. It is also very close to Fuengirola center and its famous bazaar and flea market. Puerto Deportivo de Fuengirola is used as a fishery and leisure marina.

  • Beaches - more than 8 km of sandy beaches
  • Castillo Sohail - Moorish castle on the top of a hill next to the beach. In summer, there are many concerts.
  • Plaza de Toros - the bullring
  • Port - marina and fishing port
  • Roman ruins
  • Zoo - even open during the night in the summer months (viewing the night animals)
  • The Mijas Aquapark (located in Las Lagunas, Mijas Costa) just 5 minutes walk from
  • Rent pedal boats, jet skis, parascending on the beach.
  • Visit the Roman ruins at the Torreblanca end of Los Boliches
  • Benalmádena port and the aquarium (about 10Km away).
  • Feria week in mid-October every year. A mixture of music, flamenco, religion, horses, eating and drinking See the Spanish at play, when they party they do it seriously.
  • Play golf at one of the many courses within easy reach.
