General
Recent harbour works and dredging (summer 2006) mean that visiting shallow draft yachtsmen can enter at all states of the tide, so long as North Sea swell is slight. Fishing boats have moved from the SE wall to the new NE dock, Pontoons now provide berths for yachts. The harbour is busy with fishing boats. Adding to the interest is the town with it's waterside pubs and restaurants and all the shops you'd expect in the bustling little town. It's a place for a crew change too as a bus connects with Berwick on Tweed and the NE mainline railway.
Approaches
This is straightforward as a north cardinal buoy keeps you clear of outlying 'Hurkars' rocks (locals use a shortcut, you may observe the fishing vessels whilst in port and adopt their track) When close to the east of the cardinal buoy locate the leading line 174deg (daytime 2 orange posts, or nightime two green lights) and make for the entrance. In a smooth sea you may wish to anchor in Eyemouth Roads. Anchor west of the leading line in appropriate depth. The entrance is narrow, Be sure the 'canyon' is clear before entering. Monitor vhf ch6 for fishing boat activity.
