General

Wait until at least -3hrsHW before attempting entry and follow the buoyed (unlit) channel to Kippford. The yacht club has a fine pontoon and welcomes visitors. If you are intending to dry out then take the outside pontoon only.

Kippford is charming and the area is beautiful. It has two pub/restaurants but no provisions. A local bus will take you 3-4M to the town of Dalbeatie which has numerous food shops, pubs and restaurants.

Approaches

Arrive at a point to SE of Hestan Island LH Fl(2)10s (island at bottom of picture). See www.thesyc.com/sailing.htm for buoyage details etc.

Anchorages

To E and W of Hestan Island. The drying Horse Isles Bay (mud). Gibbs Hole (where channel runs close to Horse Isles peninsula) with at least 1m at LW.

Sailing Clubs

Solway YC owns the pontoons (electricity and water) where visitors are made welcome. Find a club Officer or contact the Hon Sec 01556 600221 to make your arrangements. The club showers, toilets and bar may then be available to you
