As per usual, crime is very high, you cannot leave the boat unattended at night.

General

43º 35' N 39º 43' E Sochi Harbour lies on the Black Sea coast of Russia. It provides excellent all round shelter. The town of Sochi is a resort and beach town.

Yachts must complete formalities in the commercial harbour before proceeding to the yacht harbour. All boats, even if coming from another Russian port, must clear customs, immigration and Port Control. Call Port Control on Channel 16. Yachts should moor at the customs dock to starboard after entering the harbour, or, if there is space, come stern-to the short quay in front of the Port Control building in the NE corner of the harbour. Officials will come to the boat. Outward clearance must also be completed at the commercial harbour.

Approaches

The large breakwater with a light and radar tower on its outer end is easily seen. There are no dangers apart from customs officials. Please read information on Russia to get an idea of what you need to bring with you.

If entering Russia secure to the customs dock. Having completed formalities go stern/bow to on the NE finger pier

Sochi is a port of entry. The authorities will visit the boat. The crew should not attempt to leave the boat before all formalities have been completed. When departing give the port control 1 days notice and officials will visit the boat at the time of departure.

The port of Sochi

The yacht harbour near Sochi's commercial harbour has basic facilities and the yacht club is welcoming to visiting yachts. There are mooring buoys laid down in the port but better facilities are those at the yacht club (VHF Channels 16 and 69, 0800-2000 only in summer). Yachts normally moor stern or bow to the quay.

Limited both in number and choice on the menu. It can also be quite expensive, even for a westerner

Things to see

Sochi has four museums that may be of interest. One Russian Orthodox church. There are good views of the Black Sea from the top of the Bolshoi Akhun Mountain. The Reviera park is also very nice.
