From Skipper2Skipper

Jump to: navigation, search

Welcome to Skipper2Skipper, the busiest sailing notes exchange and marina guide on the high seas.

This site is maintained by volunteers and anyone can contribute to any page or create a new one. If you have something to contribute, for example the fact that showers in Le Havre are bust again or that Cowes visitor pontoons have in fact now doubled in number (yah, right), go ahead, add it in.

Have you visited a marina lately and it was good? Was it rubbish? Leave a note, so that other skippers know what to look out for. Got a question to ask? Ask, someone may know exactly what you want to know. Or, if you are looking for a great sailing destination, how about Portsmouth?

And please do contribute, the idea is to have the latest information for the sailing folk, you know it as well as anyone else, the pilots and marina guides are out of date the second they are printed. Almost any page on this site has an Edit link, click it to edit the page. Don't worry, you will not break it, and even if you do, it is very easy to restore, it's all backed up. You can edit anonymously, if you like.

Happy Editing!

Accounts and Registration
You don't have to register in order to edit. It can be done completely anonymously, but it's a lot more fun if you do.

For a start, all the changes you make are attributed to you, so that everyone knows who the star skipper is. Secondly, you get to play around with various features, for example watch-lists of pages that you are interested in, your own profile page, etc. etc.

Oh, and make a user page for yourself, click on your username in the top right corner!

Database Backups and sharing

A question comes up occasionally, what will happen if the site ceases to exist. All will be lost! Ah, not so. Anyone wishing to have a copy of the database is welcome to it, on a regular basis, if necessary, for example the weekly backup. You just have to be a contributor to the site, i.e. at least register or something. That's about it. It will then take you about 10 minutes to recreate this site, should you wish to do so. On the technical side of things, there is an incremental daily backup and a full weekly one. So, whatever you type in here is quite safe.

Advertising
Is free. If you are a business, feel free to add your business to the relevant page. There is no charge, just don't abuse the service, i.e. a short description and contact name/number is sufficient.

Keep in mind though, this is a public site, do not complain to us when someone thinks your steak is rubbish or your workforce cannot varnish to save their life!

Editing
If you are unsure about editing a page, please start here: Help. It's really easy.
