Hi All! Lets do connection Skipper2skipper to Google Earth like in wikipedia. See coord template. I think demon is required who fetch coord template information from wiki database and asseble KML file. Mitka 17:55, 3 April 2008 (BST)
- Hi Mitka! I've looked at this before but not sure how to do it properly. Can you show me where the template is on Wikipedia? Thanks.

- Hi Mitka, very cool! Thanks! Can you parse the list of pages here: http://SKIPPER2SKIPPER_URL(Spam filter!)/wiki/index.php?title=Special%3AAllpages&from=&namespace=0 instead of going to the database? It would be easier. Also, I haven't had a chance to investigate KML files, what's the idea with them? Are they then uploaded to Google for anyone to see? I will investigate further when I have time, at the moment the site is running very slowly and I am moving it to better hosting, it will be much faster soon, hopefully.

- Parse this pages is imposible because although I can grab html pages but parsing of html codes is very difficult. I can parse wiki code only. Proper way is use wiki extension like KML Export (see www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:KML_Export). Now I have a bit of free time and will try develope this extension. Unfortunately I'm beginer in PHP (realy I never used it).

- I have done wiki extension for building KML from googlemap tags. Please try it! Download from www.box.net/shared/d5sarp76s8. I have changed KML Export extention. About installation read here www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:KML_Export/Installation.

- Great, thank you, I will install tonight! Skipper 06:07, 15 April 2008 (BST)
- OK, I've installed it, thanks! It needed version 1.9 of mediawiki, but I think it works ok with 1.8.2. It shows up on Special:Version as correctly installed. I think all the pages that have the coordinates need to be put into special category for this to work? Skipper 20:53, 15 April 2008 (BST)
- Excellent! Try it: Special:KMLExport/United_Kingdom.
- I have done some changes. Please download and install: www.box.net/shared/d5sarp76s8. Now link Special:KMLExport will return full KML for wiki. First time it take a long time. Next time cache will be working. Open downloaded KML by Google Earth or add "Network Link" into Google Earth.

- Hi! Installed, I am not sure it worked fully? It generated a file but didn't look like there was a lot of data in it? I am away for 4 days, so will not be able to reply till Tuesday. Have a good weekend, Mitka, and thanks! Skipper 21:02, 17 April 2008 (BST)
- Yes... There was the mistake. I have updated www.box.net/shared/d5sarp76s8. Now it must work properly. Let's try again. If you exported wiki database and sent to me I would debug this extension more smartly.

- Will do, I am on holidays until Monday, so will do it then, I am away from my computer at the moment! I will also send you the export of the database next week, thanks!Skipper 07:59, 23 April 2008 (BST)
- Hi Mitka, I've installed your updates, looks good! Sorry about the delay, been really busy sailing :-) I have also exported the database for you, you can find it here: www DOT 4shared DOT com/dir/7103562/becc6c07/sharing.html (Sorry, spam filter) Skipper 10:01, 17 May 2008 (BST)
- Hi! Well. I'm in yacht delivery now :=) I'm mooring at home at 2th.
Hi, if you are trying to make a template, you need to add it to the Template:PAGE_NAME namespace. For example, if you edit Template:MitkaTemplate, you can then include it in whatever page you want by doing Template:MitkaTemplate. Hope this helps. --Skipper 15:34, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Ок, thank you! What about localizations? Mitka
Someone else was asking about other languages. Would love to, but not sure how this will be moderated, my Swahili is not all that good :-) Presumably you would like Russian? I'd suggest you start making pages with category and titles in cyrillic, and see how they work. The site's convention is NAMESPACE:ARTICLE, so it would be (in cyrillic) Russia:Murmansk and Russia:General, Russia:FarEast, something like that. Wikipedia seems to cope well with all sorts of characters. If there is enough interest, I am sure we can make a subdomain, wikipedia style later. thanks! --Skipper 09:20, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
